Eva's Echo Unfiltered Podcast

Why I Finally Started My Podcast

Business

Have you ever had one of those ideas that followed you around for years? You know the one… It pops into your head while you’re out walking, driving the car, making a cup of tea, or lying in bed trying to sleep.

For me, that idea was starting a podcast. Not for weeks. Not for months. For years.

Looking back, it’s almost embarrassing how many times I thought, “I’ll start it next month.” Apparently, “next month” is a magical place where all your confidence suddenly appears, technology becomes easy, and microphones are handed out for free!

Spoiler alert… That month never came simply because there is no such month, not that I know of at least.

But keep reading to find out why I finally started my podcast, and what finally pushed me from thinking ‘one day’ to Day One.

The Excuses Sounded Very Convincing

I had plenty of reasons why I wasn’t starting. Or at least I thought they were reasons.

I convinced myself it would be difficult to set up. I imagined complicated software, expensive microphones, editing programmes I’d never understand, and enough technical jargon to make my brain wave a little white flag.

Then there was the financial side. Surely podcasting must be expensive? Hosting fees, equipment, music, subscriptions, you name it… The list in my head seemed endless.

And then came the biggest obstacle of all…

What if nobody listens?

If I’m completely honest, this wasn’t really about other people. It was about me. I didn’t fully believe in myself. I didn’t have the confidence to think people would actually want to spend part of their day listening to my voice.

My inner critic had a full-time job.

  • “There are already thousands of podcasts.”
  • “Who do you think you are?”
  • “What if you sound ridiculous?”

Looking back now, I can laugh at how creative my excuses had become.

We Really Are Masters at Overcomplicating Things

It’s amazing how clever our minds become when they’re trying to keep us inside our comfort zone.

We don’t just build mountains out of molehills. We add ski lifts, restaurants and holiday apartments on top!

We tell ourselves we need another course, a better microphone, a bigger audience, more experience, more confidence, More… Everything.

When in reality, what we often need isn’t another reason to wait. We need to make a definite decision.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is that successful people make decisions promptly and change them slowly, if at all. Indecision keeps us stuck. Decision creates momentum.

The moment I stopped saying “one day” and decided “today is the day”, everything started moving. Not because I suddenly knew everything… But because I finally gave myself permission to just begin, and if necessary… fail forward.

It Turned Out to Be Much Simpler Than I Expected

One of the biggest surprises was discovering just how straightforward podcasting has become.

When I finally stopped listening to my inner critic and actually started exploring the options. It soon became clear that most of the barriers existed only in my head.

Spotify has made podcasting incredibly beginner-friendly, and getting everything set up was nowhere near as complicated as I’d imagined. The same goes for platforms like YouTube and Substack, just to mention a few. They’re all designed to help creators share their message with the world without needing a degree in technology first.

I Finally Started My Podcast

AI generated image – recording set-up is not real.

In fact, one of the biggest mindset shifts for me was realising that I don’t have to create completely different content for every platform.

A single conversation can become a podcast episode.

That podcast episode can inspire a blog post or two.

A blog post can be turned into a newsletter.

The newsletter can spark discussions on social media.

Suddenly, one simple idea can reach people in several different ways, allowing everyone to learn in the format they enjoy most.

That’s when I saw the bigger picture. I was building another piece of a much bigger puzzle.

Some people love reading. Others prefer listening while driving, walking the dog, exercising, or cooking dinner. Some enjoy watching videos.

There isn’t a “right” way to learn, so why should I expect everyone to consume my content in the same way?

Will my setup improve over time? Absolutely. Will I still make mistakes? Almost certainly. Will I keep learning? Every single episode.  That’s simply part of growing. Perfection was never the goal. Progress was… and still is.

Because every episode recorded, every lesson learned, and every conversation shared is another step forward – not just for me, but hopefully for those who choose to join me on the journey.

And Here's the Exciting Part...

As you’re reading this, something quite exciting is happening. Earlier this year I had a conversation with a person I’d just getting to know. We shared our individual stories, and out of the blue I mentioned “I want to finally launch my podcast this year.” I have no idea where that came from, so imagine my surprise actually hearing myself say that out loud. But that night I thought when I went to bed “why not?” The following morning I declared my podcast to launch in mid August this year.

And this week it’s finally happening, I’m officially launching my own podcast. Yes… the very podcast I spent years talking myself out of creating!

Am I nervous? Absolutely. Excited? Even more. Because here’s what I’ve learned…

You don’t need to feel completely confident before you start. Sometimes confidence only arrives because you start. For every episode I’ve recorded over the past few weeks, have made me feel more comfortable behind the microphone.

By the end of this week you should find a link to my podcast in the above menu. I’ve named it “Eva’s Echo Unfiltered”

This won’t be just another business podcast. We’ll talk about the wins, setbacks, mindset shifts, the books changing my thinking, the lessons I’m learning while building a business and designing a life I genuinely love.

Some episodes will make you think. Some will make you laugh. And some might just give you the nudge you’ve been waiting for to move forward with your ideas and dreams.

Because if one conversation can change a life… It’s worth pressing record.

If You're Thinking About Starting One...

Whether it’s a podcast, a blog, a business, a YouTube channel, or something completely different…

Ask yourself one simple question: What’s really stopping you?

Is it genuinely a lack of knowledge? Or is it fear wearing a very convincing disguise?

If I can spend years overthinking something that turned out to be so much simpler than I’d imagined, I can’t help but wonder… What else am I making harder than it needs to be? Maybe that’s a question worth asking ourselves more often.

Because somewhere on the other side of a definite decision is the life, business, or project you’ve been dreaming about.

And who knows? Your first step today might inspire someone else to take theirs tomorrow.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time” to start your next adventure, perhaps this is your sign that it doesn’t exist. Make the decision, take the first step, and let momentum do the rest. I am telling you… Your future self will thank you.

And if you make that decision today inspired by this article, I would love to hear from you in the comments below, and also share what you have decided so I can cheer you on and support your progress.
