Release Your Mental Emergency Brakes

Release the Brakes and Accelerate Your Life

Success Principles Law of Attraction Personal Development

Have you ever driven a car with the emergency brake on? The moment you realized it, did you press harder on the gas to compensate for the drag? Of course not. You simply released the brake, and with no additional effort, the car naturally moved faster.

Yet, many of us unknowingly drive through life with our psychological emergency brakes on. We hold onto limiting beliefs, unresolved emotional baggage, and outdated self-images that create drag on our journey to success. These mental barriers – crafted from fear, guilt, resentment, or past traumas – act like a prison, keeping us confined to our comfort zones.

The good news? You don’t have to push harder. You simply need to release the brakes, which is the 10th Success Principle described by my mentor, Jack Canfield.

The Prison of the Comfort Zone

Your comfort zone might feel safe, but it’s also a trap – a self-made prison built from years of “can’ts,” “musts,” and “must nots.” These beliefs, often born from past negative experiences, keep you stuck re-creating the same situations over and over.

When I made the bold decision to pack up my life in Spain and move to Portugal, I experienced the exhilarating freedom of stepping out of my comfort zone. It was as though the brakes had been released, and suddenly, everything began moving faster and smoother in the right direction.

You, too, can escape your comfort zone by identifying and letting go of these limiting beliefs. It starts with shifting your mindset, adopting empowering habits, and changing your self-talk.

Affirmations: Your Key to Releasing the Brakes

Release the Brakes

Affirmations are one of the most powerful tools to reprogram your subconscious mind. They act like a reset button for your mental and emotional patterns, enabling you to release negativity and cultivate a self-image that aligns with your highest goals. By consistently using affirmations, you can replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones, shift your focus to what you desire, and step into a state of flow where success comes naturally.

Affirmations work because they rewire the neural pathways in your brain, helping you think, feel, and act as though your desires have already manifested. When spoken or visualized with emotion and conviction, affirmations signal to your subconscious mind – and the universe – that you’re ready to align with your dreams.

However, the effectiveness of affirmations lies in their construction. Following specific guidelines ensures they resonate deeply and produce tangible results.

10 Guidelines for Effective Affirmations

1. Start with “I am” or “I love that.”

These phrases immediately connect the affirmation to your identity and emotional state, making it feel more real and attainable.

2. Use the present tense.

State your desires as if they are happening now. This signals your subconscious to act as though the goal is already achieved.

3. Affirm what you want, not what you don’t want.

Focus on positive outcomes. For example, say, “I am healthy and vibrant,” instead of “I am not sick.”

4. Keep it concise and specific.

A short, clear affirmation is easier to remember and repeat consistently.

5. Include an action word ending in “-ing.”

This implies progress and movement, e.g., “I am attracting opportunities.”

6. Add dynamic emotions like joy, excitement, or gratitude.

Feelings amplify affirmations, turning them into a powerful vibration that attracts your desires.

7. Integrate at least one switch word

Words like Divine, Blossom, or Together act as energetic triggers, enhancing your focus and intention..

8. Make them personal – focus on yourself, not others.

Affirmations should reflect your personal journey and growth, not influence or control someone else’s actions.

9. Add “or something better” to allow room for greater possibilities.

This leaves room for the universe to deliver an outcome greater than what you envisioned.

10. Ensure they resonate deeply with your desires.

Authenticity is key. If an affirmation feels off or forced, tweak it until it aligns with your true aspirations. Said that, in the beginning you may not believe in your affirmations, but if they are in alignment with you and your true desires, it won’t take long before you start believing, and then your subconscious will follow as if it has already happened.

Examples of Affirmations:

Health: “I love that my body is radiating vibrant health and energy, and every cell in my body is thriving in perfect harmony – or better!”

Wealth: “I am confidently creating and receiving abundant wealth, and I feel deeply grateful for the endless financial opportunities flowing to me – or something even better!”

Abundance: “I love that I am living in a state of infinite abundance, attracting joy, love, and prosperity effortlessly – or even better!”

How to Use Affirmations

Affirmations are more than just words; they are a practice that, when done consistently and with intention, can transform your mindset and align you with your desires. To unlock their full potential, it’s essential to incorporate them into your daily routine with focus, emotion, and visualization. Here’s how to make your affirmations truly impactful:

1. Review Them 1–3 Times Daily

Dedicate specific times each day to focus on your affirmations – such as in the morning, during a midday break, and before bedtime. These moments are ideal because your mind is either fresh and alert or transitioning into a more receptive state. Regular repetition reinforces the affirmation, embedding it into your subconscious.

2. Speak or Sing Them Aloud with Enthusiasm

When you verbalize your affirmations with energy and conviction, you create a powerful vibration that resonates with both your subconscious mind and the universe. If you’re feeling bold, sing them! Singing adds a layer of joy and engagement, making the practice more enjoyable and memorable.

For example:

  • Say: “I am radiating health and vitality!” with a smile and a confident tone.
  • Or sing it to a tune you enjoy, adding a playful, uplifting element to the experience.

3. Visualize Yourself Living the Affirmation as Though It’s Already True

Close your eyes and create a vivid mental picture of the affirmation as if it has already come to pass. Imagine yourself enjoying the benefits and experiences that your affirmation describes. The clearer and more detailed your visualization, the stronger the impact on your subconscious mind.

For instance, if your affirmation is about wealth, visualize yourself checking your overflowing bank account, feeling the excitement of financial freedom, or enjoying the lifestyle you desire.

4. Hear the Sounds and Feel the Emotions Associated with Your Success

Engage all your senses. What would success sound like? Perhaps it’s the sound of a cheering crowd, the laughter of loved ones, or the ping of an online payment notification.

Then, connect with the emotions that success brings:

  • Feel the warmth of gratitude.
  • Experience the thrill of accomplishment.
  • Bask in the peace of fulfillment.

The more you immerse yourself in these emotions, the stronger the energy you send out to attract your desires.

5. Repeat the Process Consistently for Each Affirmation

Consistency is key. Repetition rewires your brain, replacing old, limiting beliefs with empowering ones. Make affirmations a daily habit, like brushing your teeth or drinking water. Over time, you’ll notice shifts in your thoughts, feelings, and actions that align with your goals.

By fully engaging in this process, affirmations become more than just words – they become a gateway to transformation, bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Start today, commit to the practice, and watch your affirmations reshape your reality!

Step into Your Power

Release The Brakes

Releasing the brakes means granting yourself permission to grow, thrive, and succeed without the weight of past limitations. It’s not about working harder or forcing success – it’s about letting go of the fears, doubts, and patterns that hold you back. When you release the mental and emotional brakes, you allow yourself to flow toward your goals with ease and purpose.

To truly step into your power, you must be willing to do the uncomfortable. Growth doesn’t happen in the safety of your comfort zone – it happens when you take bold steps that challenge your old habits and beliefs. This could mean having that difficult conversation, embracing a new opportunity, or saying “yes” to something that scares you. It’s through these moments of discomfort that transformation begins.

Changing your behavior is essential to this process. When you shift your daily actions to align with your goals, you begin to dismantle the old patterns that no longer serve you. For example:

  • If you’ve been procrastinating, take immediate action, even if it’s small.
  • If self-doubt has been holding you back, start practicing positive self-talk.
  • Replace habits that drain your energy with ones that empower you, like meditation, journaling, or regular exercise.

One of the most powerful tools for change is the consistent use of positive affirmations. By consciously choosing empowering thoughts and repeating them daily, you rewire your subconscious mind to support your growth. Affirmations help you visualize the limitless future you desire and act as a compass, guiding your thoughts and actions toward success.

Imagine the possibilities when you stop re-creating the past and start focusing on the future. Picture yourself thriving in a life that once felt out of reach, living with confidence, joy, and purpose.

Your journey to freedom doesn’t require massive leaps all at once. It begins with small, intentional steps – one positive affirmation, one shift in belief, one courageous decision to break free from what holds you back. Over time, these small changes compound into a powerful transformation, helping you create the life you’ve always dreamed of.

So today, commit to doing the uncomfortable, changing your behavior, and using positive affirmations to step into your power. Your future self will thank you.
